Pre-Filter: Whether To Use One or Not?

We have a new 2016 F350 6.7L in the fam. Woohoo!

I have searched the forums and I don't see any threads newer than mid-2014 related to this subject. If any of you are aware of newer ones that address this question so that there is not a re-hash please point me in the right direction. Has Ford addressed this issue since then?

Do any of you recommend using a Pre-OEM-Filter that acts as a fuel water separator? Based upon what I have read it comes down to emulsification and whether any of the filters are effective at removing the water...correct?

If you are using one, which one?

Is there any one using a Racor PS-120 or similar like we use on the 7.3?

How about this one from DieselSite: http://www.dieselsite.com/dieselsite...separator.aspx

Thank you in advance for any info.

Being you have a new truck warranty. I would not use one unless you can get it in writing that it will not void warranty.
The on frame filter does a great job if you use OEM filters and keep the water drained off the separator. Cheapest ones are on dieselfiltersonline.com especially if you order more than one. I normally get 2 oil and one fuel filter when ordering. Be sure it is ford filters when ordering.

X2 to what bigredtruckmi said. IMHO - Any you do to the truck that the factory didn't put there is going to be used as a reason to try to deny your warranty. And while I agree that putting an additional layer of fuel conditioning should be a good thing, Ford doesn't seem to see it that way.

X3. The rail filter has yet to produce one drop of water (must get good quality but then I check it monthly) and the design just makes sense

If you're itching to make mods, maybe a coolant filter...?

The frame filters from Dieselsite doesn't void the warranty. They to not change the fuel flow nor bypass the Ford filter. Do you need it? Maybe not as long as you buy fuel from a high volume station you trust in their fuel quality. Does it hurt to have it? No, just an added level of safety and filtration in my books.

I like it partly due to the face you can see what is in the fuel bowls where the Ford filter you can't.
