Advice on new truck

So I went yesterday and looked at a 2008 f350 v10 with 117000 miles. Everything checked out good drove good no oil leaks or or skips. Is there anything specific to the v10 I need to look for the only thing that seemed kinda different is when accelerating it seemed a little sluggish and then took off. I have read that is common on the drive by wire trucks though. I am coming from a 1995 460 so I figure power should be a little better than it. Thanks

Sluggish on takeoff is NOT normal for any drive-by-wire vehicle, especially a truck engineered for pulling and hauling. Can be lower than typical fuel pressure, can be something more serious. My V10 has 198k miles and runs perfectly.

If you aren't capable of verifying the condition of the engine you might want to take it for a pre-purchase inspection.

Guess what I’m saying is it doesn’t take off as hard as my 460 does. Once it gets rolling it pulls hard maybe the difference in 460 to v10. I had just read that somewhere about the drive by wire thing.

Could your 460 have taller gears than the V-10? That could explain why the 460 makes it off the line faster.

Nah 4.10 in the 460 4:30 in the v10 the v10 does have 295 tires So I guess that would make a difference talked to a guy today that has owned both and he said the 460 had more off idle than the v10 but after that the v10 did good.

Had 134000 on my 2000 when I sold it in 2016. I bought it new. Only problem was a couple exhaust manifold bolts broke, which was a problem on the early V10's. Went through a couple of plug coils at about 120000 miles. Changed oil and filter every 10 k with mobile 1. Loved the V10 and would have ordered it in my 2016 if it was offered. Can't help you on the take off. I had 3.73's but had the manual tranny.

Well went back and drove it again today really paid attention to take off I think it was just differences in trucks I will say that the v10 you just have to push the pedal further before a response happens. Either way it’s sitting in the driveway drove it 80 miles home and was really pleased with the power the only thing I need to do is check the balance on rear tires it’s got a pretty good shake at 75.

I picked up a 01 f250 4x4 ccsb with 120K on it. V10 with 4.30 gears and 295 tires. It will easily spin the tires. It gets up and moves. Has a basic canned tuner on it that basically changes the shift points. Maybe a little more power than stock.

The service history is nice. Have the trans xfer case and diffs ever been serviced? That's about $800 to 1K worth of service at a shop.

At that mileage, I would expect it to be more than ready for this. Coolant and brake fluid too. Hopefully, at least the trans has been regularly serviced. Like every 50-60K so it will be ready for its second service yesterday. The 5R110s can be problematic and need fresh clean fluid to survive.

Rust would be your second concern. If you live in Phoenix your good. Anywhere else get under it and examing the underbody, bed support rails, cab mounts, corners, rockers, door tailgate seams, rear quarters up behind the inner and outer wheel well sheet metal.

If its rotted run. If not rotted Krown it. Google Krown or something similar...do not do the tar-like undercoating.

This is a heavy vehicle, not a dragster. Only the old skool 460s and the new skool 6.2 gassers leave the line with any authority. The 5.4 is the worst. Not a fan of the 5R110W.

Go drive a 6.2 with the 6R140 trans and see what I mean. IMO you are better off stepping up to a 6.2 2011-16 gas if you can afford it. Diesel if you plan to tow heavy. They all come with inherent reoccurring common problems like all these over-engineered rolling computers do.

If it needs tires they run $3-400 each for E range 10 plys and last 40K unless you run the higher-end road tires.
