What does flushing the lines and evaporator entail? I've never done that. In the past, when reassembling an AC system, I've simply applied vacuum to the system, verified that there are no leaks, then added the oil and refrigerant. If I'm missing a step, please elaborate!! I want to learn!

Thank you, sir! I've found that understanding the mechanical/electrical/hydraulic/thermodynamic systems that suround me makes my life easier and cheaper than relying on strangers! I probably should try to understand the AC system better to avoid recurrences of expensive compresser failures in the future!

C'mon man, you know the window is going slower because the electricity has so far to go to get to it! It loses some of its gumption on the way there!!

After pricing out all of of parts for the AC repair PLUS the costof having the system flushed PLUS the hassle and time investment required, I decided to have a professional do it. I dropped the Redneck Limousine off at a local shop yesterday to replace the compressor, drier, accumulator, orifice tube, and condenser. They'll start working on it tomorrow.

I got the big black truck ball from the shop. The AC is ice cold! The bill, in the end, came to just over $1700!! Yikes!! We ended up replacing every part except for one hose, though because the evaporator was full of bugs and water. I guess that's another $1700 on top of what I've already spent.

(Ugh. I need to start building some guns again so I can build up my back account. )

Wow!!! That’s a tough pill to swallow. I feel your pain I just shelled out $2,000 for a rear axle rebuild. Anyways I am glad you guys have that Ford ice cold A/C now. Never had a vehicle blow as cold of air as my Ford trucks.

Yesterday while driving the family to see the air show at Hill AFB, enjoying the ice cold AC, the intercooler boot on the turbo blew off. The only tool I had with me was a cresent wrench, so I reinstalled it. Took off. It blew off again. After the 4th time it blew off, I found a rag, cleaned off both of the mating surfaces, bought some hair spray at a gas station, sprayed both mating, then swapped the bands from both ends of the boot. It looks like the band was damaged. I'll have to replace them.

We made it home without the boot blowing off after the hairspray and band swap, even with boost hitting 23 psi atone point.

I had the same thing happen to me when I had my 6.0L on the 15 near the Valley of Fire. I had 6 in the truck including my 3 year old and 6 month old. It was 118 degrees outside. Clamp broke and had to limp 50 miles to the Ford dealer in Mesquite. Luckily they had clamps in stock. $16 and they let me borrow a pair of gloves since remembered my tools but I forgot a pair of gloves. Back on the road with full power, could have been worse.

Well, I can't say as I've ever heard of hair spray being used to fix a vehicle before. That's a first. Now you're gonna have everyone going out and keeping a can of hair spray in their Super Duties!! "Hey dude...what's with the hair spray?" "Uh, er, I used it to fix my engine. Yeah, that's it!"
