Parking gear slips sometimes

Recently and only every once in a while when I place her in Park, the truck will roll forward/backward and I hear the loud pop/click from the parking gear/lock not fully engaging. I pull the gear selector to Drive or such and then forcefully push in Park to make sure it's fully engaged.

Is there a linkage I need to adjust or does this signal a failing part? I just had a Ford reman 4R100 put in less than 20K ago but not sure if that has something to do with it. Thoughts?

Can't speak about the internals of the transmission but wonder if your shift lever is loose and tranny not going all the way into park. There are 2 bolts under the dash that can back out and cause a loose connection between the lever and shift linkage. Check those. here's a video on how to

Will it start in park the way it is. Mine wouldn't start in park but did go in. The two screws removed one at a time and put back in with lock tight worked great for me. Just did it week or so ago.

my 02 did the same thing. if the two bolt under the dash are tight, you need to adjust the shift cable where it meets the trans. there are two different style clips that hold the cable to the trans lever. one lifts to unlock, one pulls out to unlock.

thanks for all the replies. my bearing/hubs started grinding so that's the priority fix being focused on right now. the nuisance of a random parking gear slip has to wait...

it really is not that hard to do. takes all of about 60 seconds to adjust, once you get under the truck and spend 20 minutes figuring out how to unlock the clip.
i just did my second truck today, and of course this one had the other style clip.

Before adjusting anything check the bolts under the dash. They are almost always the cause of this.
