air cleaner for 300
i am in the process of getting my 81's 300 modified soon, for better peformance etc. i am installing the offenhauser intake, with efi exhaust manifolds, and a edelbrock 650cfm carb. i am now looking for an air cleaner for her. i have an old edelbrock open air cleaner. i have really been interested in doing an oem ford snorkel type air cleaner setup, for a factory type look. i have an eye out for a dual snorkel from a 82-85 ford mustang 5.0l. but i do not know if will properly fit in my truck. if you guys have any other options i would be greatly appreciated. thanks again for everything

How I would do it because the carb is off set you would need to know the OD of the filter assy. you are planning to use to see if it will fit the carb and not hit anything like the HVAC box.
BTW if you are looking to get rid of the stock filter assy I would be interested in it asI have nothing for my 81 300 six.

You might be able to use a centered dual snorkel air cleaner or add a snorkel to a stock single inlet style such as Gary Lewis did. Using a spacer
(between the carb and the air cleaner) might solve the off-set issue if there is clearance for the added height. I had to have a 1 3/4" spacer machined to re-install a factory air cleaner after installing my HEI distributor which was taller than the factory distributor. It is simply a machined aluminum "ring" along with a longer wing nut stud.

I missed that. Given that, the air cleaner will fit. BUT, you may need to put the 2nd snorkel on at a place that will clear other things under the hood. So, I would consider starting with a single-snorkel air cleaner and modify it. Take two air cleaners and meld them. Put the cleaner on with the existing snorkel pointing where it should be to work with the stock ducting, and then see where the 2nd snorkel should be.

yeah i was thinking that also. i remember seeing an episode on powernation of them converting a olds single into a dual. i was planning on an idea if i got the mustang one i could run both air intake hoses into an open area of the inner fenders similar to how dodge did with my 99 ram that i own.

I also don't think it is in the open wheel area but a void between inner fender skin and wheel well were the air would be cleaner.
If you cant duct it forward to the grille area how about under the front bumper to pick up cooler air?
Now I have to ask has any one done a test on air flow CFM of a filter assy. with just 1 snorkel? How much CFM do you think your air pump (motor) can pump? What do the modern Hi Po cars use for filter openings?
My take un-less fill on race and even then there is no need for 2 snorkels on the filter assy. other than WOW!
