78 351m to 460 swap
Recently picked up a 1978 f150 as a project truck.Wound up getting it for a song in "running"condition but the amount of things that have been rednecked and jerry rigged has made me decide to tear the whole thing apart and do it the "right" way.
One of my questions is I wanted to swap out the motor from the 351m(which has been "bubba'ed" quite a bit, over to a 460.I didn't wanna rebuild anything or really do any sort of heart surgery as I don't have the space nor the patience to do it and was looking to just buy one,put it in and call it even.
Where would one begin looking for a "performance"engine that's under $5kish?
Thanks for any help. This is my first real truck project and I'm already stoked about it.

If you switch to a 460 you will have a lot of misc parts to retro-find/buy (mounts (engine, alt, power steering, AC,etc., fuel pump, radiator, water pump, etc. etc.). for 2-4K you can get a performance 400 like from these guys: Ford Performance Crate Engines - will bolt right up, uses everything you already have and the xtra $ you can use to replace/refurbish things like your gas tank (don't want rusty gas going into a new engine), upgrade radiator to keep the new engine cool, etc.
