87 F150 won't crank

I have a 1987 Ford F-150 with the 5.0L engine. I had to replace the starter and battery and couple of weeks ago. Everything was fine until one morning this week I went out to go to work, turned the key and absolutely nothing. When I got home from work I put a new Solenoid on and still nothing...I jumped the solenoid and took it to a friend to look at it. After a couple of checks he determined it was the Neutral Safety Switch. He put a new one on and it cranked right up. I stopped at an auto parts place on my way home and when I went to start it to go home, it acted as if the battery was weak but it did start. The next morning I go to start it and all I get is a click when I turn the key to start it. I tried to jump it and that didn't help...any ideas on what could be going on? I'm a novice at best with engines and any help is greatly appreciated!

I would be checking for voltage at the starter while attempting to crank.

Check your contact points on your fender mounted starter solinoid, passenger side. If you jump the two larger bolts with a screwdriver, you can start the truck. Assuming the battery and starter are functional.

That is so freaking dangerous to tell peeps without warning them of the consequences of their actions!

Jumping the two high amp lugs really should never be done!
I know lots do it, it only takes once to regret it!
  1. One screw driver will not make contact with both lugs, So what do people grab that will ... Two screwdrivers, a pair of pliers, a small piece of wire.
  2. What if they use something that cannot handle the amps ... It'll melt in their hands!
  3. What if they have been working on the fuel system and have a little gas spilled about ... Sparks and Boom!
  4. Not to mention melting the lugs and whatever is used to jump them.
Jumping the relay to the energizing terminal (little terminal) is dangerous enough without the proper Remote Start Button. A tool every mechanic (DIY or Pro) should have in their tool box, they are cheap compared to what the results can be!

-Enjoy
