Today in 1980, a sad day for Ford...

On June 20th, 1980 Ford shut down the Mahwah, New Jersey plant where my truck was assembled. Men and women reported for service 24 hours a day in droves for 25 years with several million vehicles rolling off of the assembly line. More than 4500 workers lost there jobs that day.

It took more than four years to tear down the Mahwah assembly plant. I've been to the site where the plant used to be. A SHARP electronics headquarters and Sheraton hotel went up on the land. The train tracks are gone. The massive asphalt parking lots are gone and new grass grows.

A little thank you to those out there that built my truck at the Mahwah plant. You couldn't know it at the time, but you rolled a basic farm truck off the line that brings tremendous joy to me and my family.

On October 7th this year our ford plants are shutting down here in Australia .
No more Aussie built fords ever to be made again .
It will be a sad day for a lot of people here , I have given them over 20 years service , my wife nearly 28 years service .
It's a really stupid decision on Fords part .

Yes, it is always sad when a plant closes. They closed the Wixom Plant near me a few years ago. They tore it down and new businesses moved in. Now you wouldn't even know it was there.

I used to work at the MAHWAH N.J. ford plant,i was told at one time that was the largest assembley plant in the world, they said that it had 5500 employees.brinks would come to the plant on payday-,when you got your paycheck you would go to one of those little stations where a brinks employee was behind a glass window, you had to take off your badge and press it up against the window with your check and they would cash it for you
