6.4 L turbo diesel...yay or nay?

Easy, nay. Used for just 3 years, IMO, the most prone motor to repairs, big expense, breakdowns, non-reliability and headache Ford has ever dropped into a SD. I have had many powerstrokes over the years, along with most of my friends, and the 6.4 is something no one ever wants again.(The 6.0 would get almost the same response from me too, but I would take it again before the 6.4)

Well if the deal is right.......
The only reason anyone ever bought 6.4s new is because there was a warranty and no known problems at the time.
You will not have a warranty if you buy used unless you get some kind of extended warranty from a dealer (which any dealer really should not offer on a 6.4 truck if they do any research) and now you can do a little reading up on all the known problems with this engine.
I would not turn one down if the deal was right but it would have to be low miles and have plenty of evidence that no tuner was ever used.
People have had good results with these engines. Many, many, in fact. They have a real bad reputation though and that is downright scary. My friend is a land development contractor and pulls 15000 lbs with his 6.4 he bought new. It has around 140k now with no big problems.

Go for it! I love mine and have had no issues with it. It is deleted and runs and pulls great. I pulled our 13k fifth wheel yesterday in 40 mph winds and didn't even know it was there. Just do your research and if you get one just keep up on the maintenance on it. They can be expensive if you have trouble but so can the 6.0 or anything else. I have owned 7.3's, 6.0's and now this truck which I have had for about a year and half. So far this truck is by far my favorite. Do you what you feel comfortable with. Get a car fax or an oasis run on the truck you are looking at to find out any history on it if you don't have that info.
