Hold it now I thought Utah rocks they even sold me a shirt for proof.

Seriously though AZ is great for winter.
A couple of old mining digs we stumbled on when out for our hikes. This one is roughly 6'x6' and 15' down.

This one is about 15' or so deep 3-4' in hieght.

One happy pup.

Doesn't your dog get those burrs in his feet? My poor dog refuses to leave the road because of those things.

If by burs you mean like from goatweed or sand burs he does if the area is overgrown with that kind we might stay the night but normally we'll find a better area or at least not as over taken by them. If the dog can't enjoy the walks no sense being there. When he does get them on occasion he just stops with his paw up and I'll clean his paws and check his hair which is a magnet for all sorts of stuff. Normally on our walks I'll check his feet/ hair every so often even with no signs of them, he's a tough bugger and walks overrule pain.
Here is a pic from the Roosevelt lake area from a month or so ago that had a pretty nice boondock location but it had a kind of bur if you wanted to call it that (didn't really poke into the pads just attached to the hair) if he just wandered off the mat he was covered and of course a clean mat/ doogie bed for sleeping on is never as good as the dirt. So after 3 days of what seemed like continuous dog grooming or keeping him in the 5th wheel which isn't fun for either we left. Quiet and nice views but not worth it.

Now cactus anytime he's getting near them we'll warn him and he seems to have caught on about the thorns. He'll put up with alot to go out for walks and leave his pee mail for others.

Would wearing boots help? I'm considering it, especially for one of my dogs, who is not getting any close to areas where she might get into some.

We don't want to buy them without trying them on his feet first. Being a mini he has pretty big paws yet the height is shorter so I think they wouldn't fit correct without slipping down if that makes sense. Just guessing though.

Nice pictures. Has your dog had snake training? Thinking of putting ours through it.

Out for a walk earlier and saw this rattlesnake in these rocks, couldn't see the head or tail it just remained in a coil...warming maybe. Coil size approximately 10" diameter. The rocks are misc sizes 10- 14". Daytime temps right now 65f last night 36f.

Can you find him?

Holy Moley - good eyes. So what do you do if you get bitten by a rattler out in the middle of nowhere?

Stay CALM if that's possible after knowing you've been bit.
Here is what should be done.
Treating a Snake Bite | Wild Backpacker

You know they're out and about but till you see them it's a quick wake up call.
