What is the "coffee maker problem" in Grand Teton? They tell me no coffee there's gonna be trouble.

We only had an electric coffee maker at the time and no hookups or generator. We had to drive to a park canteen for morning coffee. That was the problem.

In a pinch I can fill the electric coffee pot's basket with coffee and then pour hot water from the tea kettle (heated on the propane stove top). My wife - the coffee snob - will likely complain, but if she wants her caffeine that's how she'll get it.

We did the french press thing on the first camping trip. It was OK. The electric coffee maker is easier to clean up.

Come on now you can't have it both ways... noisy generator with an easy cup of coffee or a quiet cup with minimal clean up. Its not like you're cleaning horse stalls.

I won't tell you about the 1 or 2 pots of electric drip that get make every morning along with my egg omletes made in the micro, turn the fridge over to AC. The wife can use her hair blower. If there tv reception watch some news. Plug the computer/ tablet/ phones in for charging and still have full batteries to do over the next day.
I have been keeping track since middle of Dec (since boondocking continuously) power made/ used by our system. Near the end of the year I'll post it to show a full years worth. Maybe someone on the fence of upgrading to solar might find it useful.

My solar controller has a USB port on it and I charge my phone there. It works all the time. I'm not sure how it gets power when the sun is down. LOL! Pretty handy.

We use a two cup french press all the time in our truck camper. Small in size and we boil water on the cook top. Good coffee, no noise.

I thought the french press made a great cup myself and better than the instant coffee we would have in deer camp.

We thought about using the VIA instant packets. But we have plenty of time to wait for the better stuff to brew.

At elk camp I might go with the packets. An extra 5 minutes of sleep in that case would be welcome.

Moved towards Gardiner, MT on the out skirts of the northern entrance to Yellowstone. There are protruding rocks sticking up so a little bit of maneuvering on the way in.
On the other side of the bushes is the Yellowstone River.
Views looking in either direction

Went for an evening drive into the mountains across the river from us and saw 3 dozen elk in one group before dark and didn't see the bull anywhere but a group that large I'm sure he wasn't far from them.
Still looking for bears maybe this time
Enjoy

Coleman actually makes a drip coffee maker that works on your propane stove. Whenever we don't have power (Because we are boon-docking) we use the Coleman coffee maker. It uses the same type filters and makes 10 cups.

We have one of those in addition to the Melitta. I bought the Melitta for the low price and good reviews. She bought the Coleman because it works more like an electric. Then I had to buy the Coleman stove.

"10 cups" probably means 3 normal cups right?

For Emergency Use, those Folgers coffee singles, sort of like a tea bag, work pretty well. They are damnably expensive for what it is. Even freeze dried is better than No Coffee. I'm no coffee snob, I like it all. I grind beans, roast beans, whatever it takes. I had a Keurig for a while. Tasty, convenient, but the machines are junk. Have to slap them around to them to work and the coffee comes out to 40 bucks + a pound. That's the next problem. Even a "pound" of coffee in the grocery store is now 12.227 ozs. What a bunch of nickel****ers.

We use the standard coffee mug and we get about 5 full cups from it. My only gripe is it takes a little longer than the electric drip. We use the standard coffee filters and Maxwell house smells so good brewing on a crisp morning. Simple pleasures are worth it.
