Watch for loose turbo bolts. It was a spendy problem on the early ones, especially when they fell out into the engine.
The dreaded "cackle" was another anoyance.

Auto trannys were stressed quite a bit by the torque of the PSD. You might check the servicing record on this if it has an auto.

Also, has the motor been/has a chip? Look for a pyrometer gauge or boost gauge/pillar. Chipping is known to reduce tranny life as well.

The 7.3 is a good engine.

Look for oil leaks in front end, and check u joints if you can. Good on ya gettin the diesel. When i bought my 99 the dealer did a good job of hiding an oil leak from me. Lucky it was under warranty

I Bought it! Thanks guys for your input... It has a few problems like the wheel bearings are starting to make some noise the u-joints look good but have the dry sound on real sharp turns so they will get replaced and while in there I will be putting pads and seals in. The rotors have no warpage and there is not a sign of ever having the computor messed with. I brought a buddy who worked in a suspension shop for 15 years and let him loose on it. Well I got him down 1500.00 and then when we went to the gas station to get some fuel it didn't want to take any fuel, man I was getting pissed and then we noticed the vent tube was off and plugged,it took me a minute and then it hit me they must of had a extra fuel tank in the bed ,there was a hole in the bed floor right above the vent so that will get fixed tommorrow other than a small oil leak between the oil pan and bellhousing which should be covered under warranty the truck is really nice. I let my wife drive it and she said man this sounds like a schoolbus that made me so happy, she won't want to drive it... There are a few other little things that I want to address but thats just to make it mine. Thanks Again Guys!!!
Bill
