I just did this. The needle gun is the way to go. I did not use a fancy paint just hand painted rustolium , They don't use road salt here so I'm sure I'm good. I have been spraying everything down with bead liner after to add a hard shell.

So went out and spend a couple hundred bucks on air tool setup and a needle scraper and started today after about 3-4 hours I have came to the conclusion that at the rate the needle scaler removes the old paint it would take me atleast a month just to remove old paint? There's gotta be a better faster and more cost efficient way? I'm looking into a small 40 pound sand blaster from harbour freight? What do y'all think? And if so what kind of blasting material should I buy there seems to be a few different types?

Why remove the the existing paint that is clearly doing its job? I second using POR15. You just need to remove the flaky rust. I used rustoleum rust converter and paint a couple years ago on my winter driver and its held up OK except in the cracks and crevasses that I couldn't really get cleaned the way it should be.
