Try Lucas

I have had good results with lucas additives. The trans. Add works well and says the effects are for the most part instant. HOWEVER. It would be wise to do a fluid and filter change. Add the lucas as part of that. ALSO that will give you a visual in the pan to determine how much superfine metal has built up in your system. My trucks tranny didnt even have a magnet. You can find out now if your trans has one. Put a small flat washer on your fingertip and slide it around on the pan to see if it grabs. If you dont have a magnet. For right now grab a "hard drive magnet from a computer repair shop and stick it on the pan externally, until you can do the filter change. Pulling the metal dust from the fluid goes a long way in aiding trans functions. Putting a new filter will allow the fluids to flow better and with the lucas thickening the fluid. It will increase pressures where it may be needed. FLUID, FILTER, MAGNET, Some Lucas. Drive it right!!!! If your lucky you could easily get another 50,000 miles from it before it needs costly repairs. DO NOT Use Trans X if you have its got a bunch of alchohol in it and its loosening the gunk from everywhere. Straight into the filter. Good luck. I hope this helps. PEACE and safe traveling.

I used it in a 93 ford ranger I had quite a few years ago with surprising good results. Trans was slipping really bad, fluid was burnt, etc. (truck had over 250k on it). I dumped a bottle of Lucas in it (made it 1 quart over full) and it ran and shifted good again. I drove it like that for over a year until I finally killed the motor (trans was still going strong). The only negative I can say about it was in cold weather it took about 30 seconds to go into gear and shifted really hard until it warmed up.

I have used Lucas, Rislone and SeaFoam at various times and they all helped with shifting...

Wow. Seems like rebuilds are expensive everywhere else. Ive had three transmissions built by the same shop - the AOD cost 1180.56$, and the two E4OD transmissions cost around 1650-1750$ to rebuild.

Isn't there a thread here somewhere about someone who rebuilt their own E4OD? Parts are cheap.

We had ours rebuilt May 2017. we put in a Heavy duty 4R100 put in. its very smooth. it cost 2860.00 +Labor at 633$, we also opted to also replace the weak plastic parts in the rebuild along with a heavy duty pan ect.. so around 4K.

we lost our gears one after the other in the span of about 20 miles and then it had to be towed after that. we had no idea it was even going to happen. But from onset of symptom to disablement took about 10 minutes.

We really really didn't want it to be the tranny. We ran codes and it came back just -Transmission- so we had to opt for a new one.

If you don't need heavy duty towing , you could get one in probably for half that. 2K? We had our Tranny done at DieselTec in Hemet Ca. After reviewing/calling over 19 shops in southern California before committing to the job. Scary Tranny shops out there. Good luck.

The problem with having it rebuilt by a shop is the price can vary depending on what they find when they get in there. I recommend the Ford reman trans - I think it's about $1800 for the trans but comes with a 3-yr warranty.
