My "new" truck!

Just picked up a 70 f250 sport custom camper special. The body is in great shape but mechanically it needs some work.

It also came with a 390 and auto trans. I'm planning on swapping it out in the future, the original 360 is seriously under powered. Feels like its only got 50hp. I'm guessing its just wore out? But it'd probably be easier to swap than get the old 360 running decent. Got lots to do!

Hey nice ride. You may want to check the 390 out before you assume it is better than the one you have already.

Thanks. Yeah I planned on a taking it apart, cleaning, new gaskets, etc. A partial rebuild. I don't think I'd need to do a full rebuild? I know it has about 63k miles on it and was running when it was pulled from a 74 f250. Was thinking of swapping the trans that came with it too since its got almost half the miles that are on the current one in the truck.

Nice find!

If you ever want to get the paint off of the front grille ( pretty sure that's an aluminum grille? ) Get a couple of cans of Easy Off oven cleaner. Do the a small section first. Spray a small spot and let sit for 20-30 min. Hose down and wipe with rag. If the paint comes off relatively easy then use that amount of time for the rest of it. If not, increase the time by twenty minute increments. You don't want to just leave it on and forget beause it will mess up the aluminum if it gets to sit on it for too long.

I did my aluminum trim and tried it but you really have to pay attention. A lot easier than sanding off. That is not something you want to do unless you are going to get it to a polish level. Because once you sand it, until you get it down to 1500 grit wet sand it will be dull. After the 1500 grit, Mothers Aluminum Polish will make it shine like this...

If you want to know the details of doing it let me know. I'll tell you what I did step by step.

Your "1970" has a 1968/69 Standard Cab painted grille/headlamps.

Post the last 6 digits of the VIN .. When decoded by one of us, the year will be known.

And, on sale day, 360's magically become 390's!

According to the parts catalog, the only 1969 only grille was used in Rangers: C9TZ-8200-A

The Standard Cab painted grille is the same 1968/69: C8TZ-8200-D

The 1968 Custom Cab/Ranger, 1969 Custom Cab grille is the same: C8TZ-8200-E

The '69 grille has a feature the '68s don't --an indention that runs all the way across the upper half of the middle rung. On the '69 Ranger, the indention will have a red stripe on it. On the non-'69 Ranger grille, the indention has no stripe on it.

Indention shown on the upper half of the middle rung on my '69 F100 Ranger. This indention isn't present on a '68 grille.
