thinking of buying a 6liter that has 88k on the clock, the owner is a mechanic and has replaced all the injectors and the head studs ,EGR delete kit with a turner not because of failure , he was just trying to prevent the issues that could happen if you know what i mean. its in a 2001 excursion(looks brand new ) with a transplanted 2004 6liter. what other potential issues should i be aware of ?
i do own a 6.7 scorpion but the 6 liter is all new to me,
just need some input before i jump
your input is greatly appreciated ,THANKS
Pick your poison. True, the early HPOP is more prone to failure, with that said not all of them had the dummy plugs and stand pipes to deal with either.
I think the term pricey is subjective. Pricey compared to what? Cheap compared to doing what has been done already.
Studs, injectors and being deleted already is pretty big ticket for starters being already done.
My bigger concern would be how can he prove to the OP that this mill only has 88k miles on it? An '04 with only 88k, those injectors could have gone another 100k miles with no issues.
I would for sure want the 6.0 drivetrain set up though, that is a no brainer.
thank you both for your replies!!!
the seller is someone I've known for a long time and consider a friend so I'm sure he's not blowing smoke at me as far as the 88k goes. I never even gave the drivetrain a thought, the excursion had a V10 originally before the transplant i guess i assumed that they would be the same. so what drivetrain should it be ?
the question I dont want to ask be i will, what if the stock trans 4R100 is still in it and not the 5R110?
does the V10 and 6.0 have the same transmission bolt pattern ?
Thank you
I'm pretty sure the 4R100 would bolt up if that Ex had a 6.8 previous. Someone like Mark K or other folks might chime in for sure. The 7.3 bell housing was different but this would make no diff in your case since it was a gasser.
Anyone here would tell you that you will want the 5R behind a 6.0 though, to handle the extra ponies.
thank you,
i just hope it has the 5R, I will find out tomorrow
as far as fun stuff to learn your 100% right i just hope its because i want to not because i have to
Numerous cases of guys taking a 4R100 and bolting up to a 6.0
Difference being it needs to be V10 bell housing.
The OP stated this was a V10 previously.
But why would you want to do that when it barely holds up to a slightly modded 7.3. And there are differences between the gas and diesel 4r100. Don't mean to hijack.
