Should I buy this truck?

I'm looking for some advice; I have a 2001 Lariat 7.3 PSD CC RWD with 325,000 miles on it. I've found a 2007 one-owner Lariat 6.0 PSD CC 4X4, loaded, with 120,000 miles, asking price is $24,900.00.

I've heard so many bad things about the 6.0 PSD, and I've also heard that by '05, Ford and IHC had the issues resolved.

Should I trade?

Price sounds high but it's not going to hurt anything by looking. Ask the owner what has been done to the truck (studs,STC,oil cooler, etc) what is/was the interval between oil changes. Ask ask ask

I paid 25K in 2011 for a 2006 F350 King Ranch 4X4 CC Diesel 85,000 mi. from a dealer lot. Is the 6.0 really holding its value that well? The issues for the different years of this engine are a subject for the brain trust, but there are still significant repairs to be made to a stock motor from 2007. I love my 2006 6.0 but it is a bit of a learning curve and maintenance ritual to get one to operate with peak performance and dependability.

Find out more about what has been done to the motor, especially any mods or upgrades. This will clue us in to what you are looking at. It seems like these motors have gone through a period of universal condemnation only to emerge later as best kept secrets after being bullet-proofed. It has cost me about $4000 to get mine to where it really needs to be. Over a five year period that has not been too much to handle. It is a joy to drive now.

I paid 23k for my 06 cclbak with 97k mi. off dealer lot. The price your looking at is certainly dealer retail price. If this is a private seller price, you should have some wiggle room cuz there is no way he would get even close to 25k on trade in.
Mine was completely stock. I did the necessary upgrades/deletes and hopin i' never have to do head/stud job. Like some said above, its a learning curve to be sure but from my home work, i do believe the 6.0 is one of the best kept secrets. Try pricing a Cummins of same year.

The price sounds high to me as well. I bought a '06 KR 4x4 CC with 92K miles, bone stock, clean carfax, one owner trade in at the dealer. This was in 2013 and I paid 20K. They were asking 22K. Get some live data and find out the history on the motor. Many factors to consider but it does sound a little steep on price in my opinion unless you can verify that it was bullet proofed by a reputable shop.
Good luck either way...I love mine.

I never understand the 20k+ 6.0's, but they are all over the place. I paid 11k for mine almost 4 years ago.

I don't think you could say that the issues were resolved. The issues were identified and workarounds built but you will need to monitor the engine with gauges and some modifications need to happen for reliability (if they haven't been done already). As for price, I haven't looked. Bought mine new in '05.

Thanks everyone for chiming in, I appreciate the advice. Its on a dealer lot, clean carfax. I haven't contacted the previous owner yet, regarding mods, but it "appears" bone stock, no gauges, etc., other than what it came with.

I have an '07 and bought it new, other than pretty minor warranty stuff (well a bed plate seal was most major) it has been fine. Stuff I felt was good to do proactively is in my sig line. I think as already has been mentioned: the later you go the better International and Ford got it, with improvements like the STC replacement fitting and bluespring coming after the 6.0 was out of the F series.

We bought ours because we were dang afraid of what was coming in the 6.4s with the newer emissions, and damn glad we did in retrospect. We had a Lemon Duramax we would have gotten a full refund on (we were documenting it for CA Lemon Law buyback), had there still been a 6.0 in '08. So we took almost a $20k hit on that truck that was only a year and a half old .

But we are so glad we took the route we did. As others have said: get something to read live data, read through the 6.0 Tech section so you know what to look for. At the price you are looking at the truck likely isn't running off the lot. Still I do think ALL used trucks are rising -- mainly because the manufacturers are in a race to see who can fetch the most for a light duty pick-up...

Good luck! If you do your homework and stick around these guys, you will be fine...

I agree with that. When I bought my truck, diesel was 4 dollars a gallon. The 6.7 had just came out and everyone was hating on the 6.4 and 6.0. A 10 year old half ton dodge was bringing more money than a 6.0 at the time.

Now, just a few months ago I was offered 14k trade. That's 3k more than I paid for the truck 4 years and 55k miles ago...

The same thing is happening in my area. The used 6.0's have appreciated in the last few years. We have several diesel and truck used car lot around here and if you have a 6.0 crew cab with around 100k on it, they all want north of 25k. It is ridiculous for a 10 year old truck. But they're getting it so they keep asking that much

2 years ago a friend of ours bought a CCLB King Ranch on X-plan and was just shy of $70K. And they've gone up since then... Sure her truck has more power and features than ours, but it has the same GVWR, and new ours was $30K less, and she damn sure didn't get twice the truck as ours...

Seems to be a fair number of folks, even here on FTE that are picking up these "bad" 6.0s at auctions or wherever and making money on them...
