trans slow to engage sometimes.. overnight soak.

I am starting to experience some sluggishness in the transmission engaging after sitting for a while mostly overnight. 4-7 seconds, used to be almost immediate. fluid looks good, level is proper.
truck has 42,000 miles (2012 dually).

any recommendations you guys have to check this out? long tow next month (july)

Not sure Sam but my 2011 with 130,000 miles has been doing it for a while. Not usually cold for mine. It usually only happens when warm and going from D to R (I back into my parking spot at work). Same thing tho, shift and wait 5 or so seconds for it to engage. Not consistent, only happens maybe once or twice a month.

Good luck

Strange. I back out from home (cold) and I don't remember it ever happening at home. But it does happen at work when I go from D to R (warm) but not all that often.

I would have this happen occasionally on my 2012 when shifting from R to D when cold. Noticed this TSB in another transmission thread posted by Ford Doctor.

TSB 14-0177 - TORQSHIFT6 TRANSMISSION - DELAYED ENGAGEMENT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 9/30/2012.
Some 2011-2012 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a TorqShift6 transmission, without power take off (PTO) unit built on or before 7/25/2012 and with PTO unit built on or before 9/30/2012, may exhibit an intermittent delayed transmission engagement in drive or reverse. The concern will only occur during the initial transmission engagement after the vehicle is parked with the engine off for a minimum of 2 to 3 hours. This concern may be caused by the transmission pump losing prime.

Same here. After my 75 minute drive to work, it will do it now and then going into reverse to back into a parking spot. It may happen once every couple months or so though.

Funny thing is, when mine did it, it was the first thing in the morning, and not on the first shift. I would drive to the end of my driveway, then open the gate and shift into park for some reason (put out the trash can or something) then when I shifted back into D, it would pause then go.

Y'all may think I'm crazy, but, try to be rougher on it. Usually, especially working a trailer through a tough spot, I'm pretty rough with slamming between D and R. For me it's completely automatic, I reach up and slam the shifter juuuust right to make 2 clicks.

So, all I'm saying is, do it fast and hard..............sorry gents.

I've got 36k on my 2015 and although I don't have delayed engagement, my shifts are getting sloppy as hell and sometimes it seems to "hunt" for a gear

I first noticed that my transmission was starting to have issues after the dealer performed the latest recall to fix the exhaust temperature sensor shutdowns. I figured they reset the computers and the learning sequence was in progress, but it has now lasted several months. I took mine in for harsh shifts after a cold soak, and they quoted TSB 15-00-21, charged me for a diagnostic charge even though the truck is under warranty, and did nothing to correct the problem of "throw you through the windshield" harsh downshifts after a cold soak.

Among the complaints in that TSB are:
Intermittent harsh upshifts or downshifts between 900-1400 rpm.
Harsh/Intermittent transmission shift during transmission fluid warmup.
Harsh/Delayed 1-2 upshift and downshift.
Delayed/Harsh Transmission engagement feel between R-D and D-R shifts.

The fix is to "Advise the customer that the vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy . . .blah, blah, blah"

I took the truck in for service as the drivers mirror failed to fold, and told them about the trans issue,

they were able to recreate it today, on the 3rd try.. need to pull the trans and replace the front pump
