What is the average costs to replace transmission/engine in the mighty V10?
I have a 2003 Ford Excursion with 206k miles on her. She still runs good and strong I was just wondering when it is time what do ya'll think it would run me to replace a transmission and engine?? What else could possibly go wrong with a rig with this many miles even after re-doing a transmission? I love this rig and I want to keep her forever especially since they do not make the Excursion any longer. Any insight or personal experiences please do share. I am curious to see what kind of numbers I might be facing soon.

My Brother worked his way through college at a chain transmission shop that doesn't need to be named and according to him...
A standard "rebuilt" transmission has surprisingly few NEW parts, basically just clutch disks and seals/gaskets and everything else is salvaged from old transmissions.
On the plus side he (not a Ford guy) also said Super duty transmissions were surprisingly rare in the shop and generally from plow trucks that had been slammed into reverse a few too many times.

I checked into the V10 replacement motor from Ford. For my 02 Ex the complete motor was $4300 with a 3 year 100,00 mile warranty through Ford, serviceable at Ford dealerships. Not sure what I will do at that point. My rig has 175k and was a local truck to the dealership I bought it from. Had all the service records and zero signs of neglect or abuse. My brother works for Cummins and can get me a 5.9 at cost so I may do a conversion. Still more expensive than the v10 but he is the master mechanic and parts are at cost. Cant realy beat that.... That being said I think I will have a long time to save for it, this motor is a beast if taken care of.
