My 97 F-250. I need your help

My old girl is minty and I cant afford a hot-rod so need advice on how to make my 460 "go like crazy" for less than 2000. She has 100k on her and runs like a watch. I dont want to touch the block. Looking forward to hearing from u guys. I have a set of Dove heads if that would help. Thanks so much.

The dove heads won't work well with your price range because there is too many adaptations necessary for carb heads. Is it CA emissions?

P.S. That thing is minty!

You can get the Price Motorsports adapter to make the D0VE heads work, but you would be just as well off porting your EFI heads. The heads on your truck are F3TE's and the have the potential to flow very well with mild to moderate porting. The next best way to get more power is by switching out the cam. The reason j asked if it was a CA truck is because the 97 CA 460's were mass air efi. The system they run is more friendly to adding a larger cam which is what I am in the process of doing with mine. Assuming yours is not mass air, like mine was before my conversion, it will not handle a large cam upgrade. However, the major cam manufacturers have designed cams that are friendly to the older speed density efi systems(yours). These can provide moderate gains and may give you what you are looking for.

Other simple cheap mods that can add minimal gains;

-advance base timing from 10 to no more than 14 degrees BTC(12 is good)
-gap plugs to 0.048-0.050(this adds a little more stress to the ignition so most use an MSD or similar aftermarket coil and thicker plug wires)
-remove the "air horns" in the intake tubes(there are several threads about doing this)
-keep your stock air filter box the way it is and a clean standard paper filter in it.
-if you have an automatic trans(E4OD), look into getting a punisher valve body, as the will make your shifts faster and firmer without damaging your trans
-many more that are always +- a couple HP that are not always worth listing.
