Hello all. I've posted this blog article in other sub-forums on the site but I thought I should post it here too. It seems to be an independent testing on several different oils, synthetic, blends, conventional, diesel and auto.

According to 540 Rat, he tests on wear and shearing in strictly a PSI to fail rating. I don't know anything about 540 Rat but it seems that his testing methods are nothing short of a consistent industrial experiment. Here is the article. https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/201...-test-ranking/

I was going to post the same link but thought I'd search first. Sure enough, you beat me to it. Hard to believe you haven't had a response yet. Lots of very interesting information at 540 RAT's blog. The most surprising result of his testing is that in general oils designed for Diesel truck engines provide less wear protection than oils for gasoline car engines.

 

Yes sir, absolutely agree. I think some responses somewhere else said they thought he was bragging. But I see it as Rat is trying to establish his credibility. I keep checking in on the blog. I think Amsoil has all of the other diesel oils beat by a long shot.

 

Justin, don't know if you're an Amsoil dealer, I'm sure not and don't want to get identified as one.

 

No I'm not. Not trying to plug for them either. I was just impressed at the performance of their oil in the ranking list.

 

so the link is an interesting read....and certainly focused on the 30 weight market.

one of the problems I have with these types of studies is that if you say this particular link uses test type #1 and my favorite oil scored 40 out of 80....then look at 20 other test methodologies...my favorite oil will move up and down on the rankings depending on what the test method is......so we have yet to find a test method that identifies the "super oil" at any price.

not to much rotella representation on the rankings which is a very popular oil.

Sure no problem. A couple of my reservations are he mentions that this is real world testing but the conditions aren't in a real engine or something to that effect. There are some oils that he hasn't tested yet like Schaeffer's.

 

From what I gathered from his blog, if we send him an unopened quart of a particular oil we're interested in, plus $10 to cover some sort of handling cost, he will test it. Sounds reasonable to me.
