1956 F100 Volare Clip Wheel/Tire Size

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on my 56F100. The ones on there don't quite fill up the wheel well space as much as id like. Has anyone already done measurements to determine the maximum allowable wheel/tire size that would fit up front?

Greg

Due to how many ways the front end can be mounted there are too many variables. You will have to take measurements. That being said mine runs 225/60x15 on 15x7 wheels and if I remember right the back spacing on mine are 4".

1977 Cordoba IFS between
235/65r17 on BlackRock 741 Dune steel wheels 8 inch wide and zero offset
but I narrowed the IFS 1-1/2 inches. The 235s are a little tight in the rear fender wells so I might go down to 225s.

Thanks Dan, thats a nice fitment in the front. Do you guys have a method you like to use to measure what tire/wheel will fit? I've seem these tools that simulate a tire and take measurements but they're $70. didn't know if there a cheaper way to do it.

Somebody posted last week that they rented one from WheelWorks or Tirerack. I don't know anything else about it but you could check with companies like that.

My project is a budget build so I ran with a pair of old 15" crager dual bolt pattern wheels with 235/75R15s on the front and a pair of rusty chrome steelies on the rear while I thought hard about what to go with. Find some free wheels on CL that are close to what you want and get some take offs from the tire store to test the fit and look. Just avoid taking out on the highway and winding it up.

I am running Nitto 555s P245/45-17 tires on Torque Thrust II rims that I believe are 8 inches in width. Volare IFS with Fatman dropped spindles on a 56 F100.

Thanks guy. CharlieLed, I'm glad you mentioned fitment with the fatman drop spindles. Might go that route.

I'm running 235/70/15R on the front 8" wide wheel 3 1/2" backspace on a Volare Clip recessed about 2" into front of the frame. With 255/70/15R on the rear 8" wide wheel 4 1/2" backspace 9" rearend 61" wide. Seems to just fit, but not on the road as yet.
