Supercab rocker rust
Lookin for a 94-96 supercab to buy and have noticed over the years a lot of them rust out at the rocker seam below the supercab portion, mostly on the driver's side. What causes it? How bad to repair? What to look for on a pre-purchase inspection? Has anyone found a good way to prevent this on a daily driver?

Ford had the bright idea to fill the void space with an expanding foam behind the sheet metal. Any moisture that gets in there lingers and rots. Leaking rear window, 3rd brake light, or roof can let water in. Both sides of mine are gone, passenger side worst of the two.

The butyl gasket around the extra cab side window contracts/shrinks with age. Mine drips with heavy rain/high pressure wash from the top. I also have a pin hole at the end of the gutter directly over the driver's corner.
