New Oregon Member Needs Parts
Hi fellas...
This is my first post to this forum. I just recently (three days ago) moved to a '96 F-250 XLT with the 7.3L Powerstroke. I went in this direction because I needed power to pull my new 20' travel trailer, which my Tacoma just can't manage.
The difference between the two vehicles is obvious. The Ford is a friggin' beast compared to the little V-6...and I'm really warming to the Ford. After a 700+ mile initial run from Monterey, CA to Jefferson, Oregon in the F-250, I had to check to make sure my dentures were still in my mouth when I got home. That sucker is a TRUCK!
Anyway, my "new-to-me" F-250 needs a little cosmetic love to help bring it to its former glory.
I need a dome light assembly for the Ford. Also, I'm looking for a Diesel Owners Manual Supplement for it. I've found an F-250 OM for it but the diesel seems to be harder to find.
If you have one (or both) of these to sell, I'd be interested in buying it, for sure.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob, welcome aboard! Be sure to visit with us in the BS Thread.
Hmmmm, a 96 F-250 XLT, PSD.....wonder where I've seen one of those before?
If you want me too, and you can wait a few days, I might be able to get the PSD Supplement (48 pages) scanned as a pdf and email it to you. If that sounds good, just send me a PM with your email you want it sent too. Got a lot on the plate right now so it may take me a few days to get it done.
Here is what you are looking for:
This is the folder they came in...
This is the owners Manual...
This is the "Power Stroke An Owner Guide Supplement for the 7.3 Liter Direct Injection Turbo Diesel".....
This tells you how to drive in 4wd in Sand, Snow, Mud, etc......
This tells you what the Maintenance/Service Intervals and what needs to be done at each interval....
And this one tells you what the Warranty is that expired many, many moons ago....

Welcome Bob. I think you should go order a free LMC truck catalog for your model. The dome light you are looking for is available from them.

The continuing mystery of my 1996 F-250 PS Diesel XLT ext. cab
So, I've been defrauded by some clown in California who sold me a truck with a clear CA title but which was really declared a loss in Oregon. Long story about how they do it, but they can, much to my chagrin! In the end, it's "a horse on me," for sure.
One of the things I've discovered besides massive front end problems, is that someone put a 5-manual tranny in this truck, which was originally built with an automatic ZF35-42 5-spd or possibly a Ford 3.03 3-spd Auto.
Does anyone know what the correct axle ratio is for the 5 spd tranny for the year 1996? And also what the door sticker tranny code would be? I don't know if there was more than one 5-speed tranny for this truck in 1996, but I assume just one.
The other is that I'm looking for a complete 4WD front end assembly for this truck (Which is why I'm posting in the Oregon section, because if anyone knows of one I can get my hands on, I will go anywhere in the state to pick it up.) The driver side axle tube on the existing one is bent and evidently affecting alignment, so I'm thinking about just replacing the whole front end out of a good truck.
Does anyone know how many model years' front ends I can use for my truck?
Of course, there's the issue of matching the front and rear axle ratios but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I just need a front end first.

I think I would try posting on the 1987-1996 forum.....those guys have a lot of knowledge and can answer your questions as to what years are the same. If you post your vin#, someone usually can break it down as to how it was originally equipped. I saw a couple of complete front axles on Bend's Craigslist recently, but I think they were likely too old.
Hope this helps.

Did you say bent front axle tube? On a '96 F250? From the factory it would have the TTB front end, which doesn't really have "axle tubes". Did someone swap a Dana 60 straight axle from an F350 into it?
If that's the case, you should be able to use any front Dana 60 from '88-97 F350.
There was only one 5 speed manual transmission offered for the Powerstroke, which is the ZF-5.
I would post this up in the 94.5-97 Diesel section. There are lots of very helpful, knowledgeable people on there who can help you sort it out. I got a LOT of help in that forum when I owned my '95 F350.
