2005 Class C Ford Chassis E450....V10 questions?

Hello all--
Been on this site for a few years now. Had a 1992 F350 with 460 and E40D.

Now I have a 2005 Class C motor home with a 2005 Ford E450 chassis.

I thought I had a 2004 chassis as original window sticker states "4 speed automatic transmission. However, I have the TOW/HAUL button, the 1,2,3 D on gear selection display so that got me thinking. Mark K mentioned that only the 5 speed was used in 2005. So, I called Ford dealer and had them run the VIN. It is a 2005 with the 5R110W trans.

Not sure if the 5R110W is a huge upgrade over the 4R100?

So, now that I know what I have, what are some things to get me started learning more about the 2005 V10 I now have. I've read about horror V10 horror stories.... plugs blown out, 2 valve and 3 valve engines, etc.. I have also read they are good long lasting engines.

I want to service engine with new filters for oil, air, fuel, PCV, etc.

Noticed that air filter # not coming up FA-1634 is what was in my owners manual, but I'll I can find is FA- 1632, Same issue with fuel, FG-872 is showing FG-986-B. PCV EV-223 is now EX-270 standard or EV-279 if it is electric heated? How can I determine?

Thanks

Your 05' is kinda an oddball for the 2005 model year. The 2005 MY was the first year for the 3V V10 and 5R110 in the F-series. The E-series never got the 3V V10s but they did get the 5R110.(which you have) The 5R110 is good transmission and is a nice upgrade from the 4R100. The 4R100 is not a bad transmission the 5R110 is just built a little heavier and has 1 more speed.

Your truck will have the 2V engine with the long threaded heads for the spark plugs. These are much less susceptible to blow out but will not seize and break like the 3V plugs do. I'd change the plugs if you don't know the history of the vehicle. Use Motorcraft or Autolite platinum plugs. Due to the age you may want to change the COP boots as a precautionary measure.

My 04' doesn't have a heated PCV valve but maybe some do. You can tell by looking on the passenger side valve cover where the PCV valve is to see if there is extra tubing going to the base of the PCV valve. Take the old air filter in the store and see if it matches the filter you have the part number for. You may be able to get a number off the fuel filter also. It should be located on the inside of the frame rail under the driver seat.
