2001 Navigator air suspension question.

Hello all, I was wondering about the air system on my Navigator, does it have a pressure sensor somewhere, or does it just run the compressor when the suspension sags? Mine doesn't sag over night, but the compressor runs off and on quite a bit while it is parked idling. I just had the air bags out of the back and replaced the solenoids with good used ones. I also replaced the air suspension solenoid under the drivers seat on the frame with a good used one. I figure I have a leak somewhere and knowing about a pressure sensor would help me find it, Thanks. D.B.

The compressor turns on every time ride height is lower than what it should be (as measured by the ride height sensor), whether in the front or in the rear, and will continue to run until normal ride height is reached.

When you replaced the solenoids, did you use new o-rings? The o-rings prevent air from escaping the filled air spring and old dry o-rings are the cause of most air ride leaks. I once made the mistake of replacing the air springs on my 98 and re-used the old o-rings and shortly had to do the job over again because of the leak. After I replaced the o-rings, the vehicle maintained ride height and compressor runs less frequently. Also make sure not to install o-rings dry, use some dielectric grease or silicone paste to help seal.

V8SHO thanks for the reply. I used the old O-rings lubricated with some vaseline, it is possible they are leaking, but the suspension doesn't lower with the key shut off or raise when put in 4-lo. The main thing I wanted to know was whether or not there is a pressure sensor in the air system. I bought this thing for $400 needing quite a few repairs so I may keep it or I may sell it when finished, I like to have everything working as it should so no coil conversion is planned. I have a Chiltons manual for Ford trucks, Expedition and Navigator but it's very limited in the Navigator info.

Is there a way to deflate the entire system, or do I have to disconnect the air lines?

Thanks in advance for any further comments.

Get the Ford Service manual on CD/DVD. They come up on flea bay often.

And there is no pressure sensor for the air ride, just height sensors as V8SHO explained.
