no volts

My 85 e 150 manual trans has developed a problem. The van is not driven much, has 60 k miles, it did make a 1500 mile trip in April, no problem. The other day it would not turn over, just a click from the solenoid
. Battery is good, starter new, I checked cables for loose connection, it started.
This re occurred , and this time, no headlights, no power to anything. I changed the fusible link at the red power wire off the solenoid, removed a connector from the negative wire off battery terminal, it was green inside. I have power to the red wire off solenoid, ground is good. Is there another fusible link? The way this occurred, it seems like it should be a bad connection. I have manuals, but no wiring diagrams, hoping for some help.

Hi technocj,
Clean both battery terminals, remove the cables and wire brush. Next, follow the negative cable to the attachment on the engine block and remove and clean that. Measuring voltage is not accurate unless the connection is using maximum current as in starting. jim

Thanks for your advice. I had covered those bases, went over them again, and started looking further, found the hot wire wire at starter relay broken, insulation holding it together. Back on the road, I assume that was it, as I had immediate power to the fuse panel.

Good result, always glad to find a real cause with wiring problems!
Thanks for the followup. jim
