White smoke coming from engine oil cap and the dipstick?
Hey yall, white smoke is coming from my engine oil cap or my engine dipstick. If the cap is off it comes from the engine fill spot, but if its on smoke comes from the engine oil dipstick. Is this normal for driving for a bit over an hour? Are my piston rings wornout?
It's called blow by and is normal. If it's not pushing the dipstick up or blows the oil fill cap off when turned upside down over the hole then it's fine. Every seen that little stream off smoke blowing out under the engine of a big rig ? Same thing

Should the oil fill cap test be done with vent port to turbo blocked?
Oh thanks, sorry to hijack the thread a lil. I checked mine the other night and no blow by when cold or warm. Wisps of vapor was coming out I knew was normal, since my Yanmar diesel does it too on the vent hose
Engine warm
Engine revs at 2000
If the blow by wafts out it's ok,if it's a straight cylinder shooting up toward the hood then it's done.
That method has never failed me so far.
