Ford HD4R100 - Warranty

While my tranny seems good.. I will be doing some power adding in the near future and am looking ahead..
I live in Canada right on the NY border.. Called the local NY ford dealer and they can get me an HD4R100 for 2800$.. That is a great price for the included warranty.
My question is this .. what will they say when they see say a 38R turbo or other stuff on top of the motor ?

Depends on the day of the week, the experience of the tech, the mood of the service writer, how the stars are aligned, and if it's before or after 3:29 in the afternoon.

In other words, get it in writing up front or don't expect anything. The wife has a HD 4R100 in her truck with a shift kit and a 38R and it's been fine for a few years now if that makes you feel any better.

I have 70,000 miles on my HD4R100, the three years are long up, and I was not kind to it through my learning phases with the truck. No issues - and they ride a lot cooler than stock with the same stock transmission cooler.

Great prices perk up my antennae. I'd get the part number and make sure it's a real deal HD4R100, not just "heavy duty" in the opinion of the salesman.

I got quoted $3600 not installed at my local Ford dealer 2 weeks ago. That is a great price.

For more information on this..
When I call my local Canadian FORD dealer and give them this number
2003 4R100HD Super Duty 4X4 F250, 350, 450, 550 EXCURSION 7.3L 1C3Z7000FBRM 6U2Z7V000FRM TRM-1620
They tell me that is the transmission that is in my truck.. - My original 2003 Ford EX tranny
I was under the assumption that the HD version is the BETTER version ?
Thoughts ?

Edit.. I just called back about Warranty .. he is stating a 2 year unlimited..
and noted that I got lucky to get that tranny in this truck..

It is supposed to be 3 years unlimited, no commercial exemptions. That is stated in writing at several Ford dealerships in the area.

The HD4R100 was not even conceived in 2003, so your Excursion was not originally equipped with one.

If you are the second owner of that Excursion, and the previous owner replaced the original transmission with an HD4R100, and you are again having to replace it now, then I would think twice about getting another one.

If, and I think this is a more likely if, your parts guy is confused with the part numbers, then I can see easily see why, based on the numbers you posted.

The 1C3Z7000FBRM is NOT an HD4R100. It is a regular service remanufactured/replacement 4R100, built to the same standard as the original 4R100, without the upgrades that increase the price of the HD version.

So if 1C3Z7000FBRM is the part number that your parts guy was referring to, then yes, he is correct, as that is regular replacement option for your 2003 4x4 Excursion. You either have that transmission already if yours was replaced, or you would get that transmission if you went to replace it, and didn't insist on getting the HD4R100.

Now, if you insist on getting the HD4R100, then DO NOT order a 1C3Z7000FBRM. That's the wrong part number. It's right for your vehicle, but wrong for the upgraded transmission.

The correct part number for the HD4R100 that fits your application, which you also provided, is 6U2Z7V000FRM. This is the ONLY part number you should specify when shopping for a price quote, and when asking about warranty term.

Good post Y2KW57. I was thinking to he got the wrong quote for the wrong transmission.
There is a lot of Ford Dealers that don't know they exist or make more money on the other option.

Here is the tag on my HD4R100 - you'll note the same 6U prefix:

Ok ,, more good info here.
So I called my local FORD dealer again and gave the part number starting with 6U and was told it was indeed a different tranny..
but with the same cost.. 3200$ now that is a deal.. and 775 $ to install it..
Wow.. VERY hard not to jump on this when needed !

FORD installed - about 4000$ Cdn dollars.
BTW installed - about 9000$ Cdn dollars..

I would REALLY prefer the BTW , but not at that kinda difference, thanks for clearing the air for me !

IIRC many here advocate for changing the torque converter that comes with the HD transmission to a multi disk converter. I am sure someone else can chime in on this that knows more than I, just wanted to put it out there!

I did read that ..
I would likely be all for IF it does not void the 2 year CDN warranty

What is a BTW?

(BTW, I re read this thread, and didn't find any other reference to BTW, BTW).

Do you mean BTS, as in Brian's Truck Shop (or Stop, forgot which), an independent mechanic in Lead Hill Arkansas who has specialized in rebuilding 4R100's for the last 16 years or so?

Or do you mean you are torn between getting a new transmission, or parking the truck and getting a German motorcycle or sports car?

Or is their a Canadian outfit called BTW that rebuilds 4R100 transmissions?
