F-150 and 37" tires
Hi guys,
I had a 2008 F-350 lifted on 37", short story that diesel crapped on me , it's a piece of **** ! I'll never buy another diesel that's for sure. The emission systems now a days make them not as reliable as before. So my question. Will a F-150 front end be able to handle a 6" lift with 37" tires or do I have to go with an F-250 gas engine truck? YES I like my trucks big. But at the same time the F-250 is a lot heavier and will probably consume lot's more gas. So I'm thinking going with the F-150 instead. Also is the 6.2L engine only availlable in the Raptor? or can i have it an regular F-150.
I'm not sure why, but the F-250 looks way bigger but the dimensions are supposedly the same, i'm wondering why, is it just the suspension that makes it look bigger?

I wouldn't go more than 35" on the tires with a leveling kit. Good lifts are expensive and require cutting the frame. If you go bigger, you will spend a lot on re gearing and then fixing all of the things that will keep breaking when you try to use it off road. The U joints and CV joints aren't up to it in my opinion.
Largest displacement engine on a 2015 and up F150 is a 5.0 V8. The torque leader is the 3.5 EcoBoost.
It will require a 7" lift. Just about every kit out there only contains the bare minimum to make the truck roadworthy, much less off-roadworthy.
Some will say go for it. Some have I'm sure. But, If you go that big, you may be calling the F150 a POS when all of the mods cause things to fail.
In my opinion, go with a gas Super Duty. Order it with the camper package and the snow plow package. No lift and 35s on the factory wheels.
If you must lift and run 37s, get ready to spend a lot to get the proper suspension. Make sure you order one with 4.30 gears. I doubt you will ever find one on a lot with 4.30s. However, if I was going 37s on a Super Duty, I would go with 4.88s. You can't order one like that so budget about 1500 for regearing.

If you like big you'll have to lift an F150 at least 6" and even then your not significantly higher than a stock Superduty......I know, as I notice this everytime one goes by. However I do believe an F150 is up to the task of 37s which will need about 8" lift.......there is a kit made by McCaughey s or something close to that which claims 6.5" and 37s doable but I believe they are using a narrow wheel and perhaps a narrow 37" tire as well. Honestly as far as power is concerned Im sure I've lost some as I didn't change out gears ( have 3.55) but it's not really noticeable as seat of the pants feel goes. This is with 5.0 I'm sure a 3.5 ecoboost with 3.73 would have plenty of torque to get the monster rolling.

Ok, well, this is really going to help me, I've seen on youtube and it confirms that the 6" lift on the f-150 requires cutting and the f-250 is bolt on. And since the f-250 has the 6.2 L engine option, I migth get away with the stock gears, since i won't haul with it really, it's more of a toy truck show only that won't see the mud.
So seing your responses, I think I'm going to go for the F-250 with the 6.2L engine on a 6" suspension lift on 37x14.5R20.
Too bad because i wouldve liked to have the aluminium body, being in Canada, i really want this truck rust free for a lot to f years to come.

Order a 2017 Super Duty and you will get an aluminum body. Make sure you get 4.30 gears, since it seems like you would rather not swap them. You will be disapointed with a 6.2 with 3.73s and 37" tires. When I test drove a 2015 6.2 F250 I was disapointed with 3.73 s and the stock 18" wheels/tires. I can not imagine running 37s with that set up.
I still think you'd be pleased with a 3.5. EB F150 leveled with 35s. But some guys have a need for size. The diesel guys will rib you for having a gasser and the guys with 40" tires will make you want to go bigger. It's a viscous cycle. Once you start doing major modifications, you're always chasing problems. Been there, done that.

yeah, it's funny but I've tried the Eco boost but for some reason I think the 5.0L has more guts. not sure why. But I'm also not a big fan of replacing turbo's when they go bad either.
I used to have a F-150 on 35's but there is just that too many on the road it just doesn't make it special anymore. I want something you don't see every day and I just love the bigger look. not too big tho, I wouldn't go with 40's.
But i also want the engine to perform as well. so yes. i appreciate all the feedback. I will definitively go for 4:30's gears, I'll swap them if I don't have a choice.
