2nd Gen EcoBoost up to 450lb/ft torque

TFL went to Dearborn, Michigan to get inside at the 2nd Gen 3.5L Ecoboost. New block, same displacement (bore and stroke), same 365hp but upped to 450lb/ft of torque. Port injection as well as direct injection when needed. New turbos...just to give a taste. Plus the all new 10 speed automatic.

I'm hoping with the shorter block and all the short comings of the first generation EcoBoost this new one will be better. I'm also hoping the poet inectio. Won't add much more to the cost when the injectors need to be replaced and can be done without paying a shop to do it. Erring on the side of caution and not getting too excited as to be let down with more problems down the line. I'm still waiting on how the 10 year longevity will be on the engines, especially here in the rust belt.

I know this may sound a little silly but the only thing about this trans that scares me is that gm was involved!! And I mean that

I would assume the port injection is like Toyota's approach where the engine normally runs on the direct injection, but in certain situations, the port injectors are there to wash the PCV and EGR crud off the backs of the intake valves.

I would certainly feel better about this approach. The only problem with Ecoboosts is that they like premium gas to make their max horsepower, and the price diff between regular and premium is a LOT these days.

The 6 speed trans in front wheel drive applications (Escape, Edge, Explorer, Fusion) was also co-developed with GM. They seem to have been decent in terms of reliability. But 10 speeds in any automatic will make for a pretty complicated transmission.

Good stuff,
George

Doesn't the current 3.5 in the Lincoln already produce 460 or 480 on premium fuel?

So, the new 3.5L EB is a forced induction, 10.5:1 C/R, 87 octane engine?

Damn..........that is impressive.

You're probably correct, but it is still impressive.

If that's on 87, I wonder how much better it would be on 91 or 92 octane.

Nope, it's got the same 10.0:1 compression ratio the current one does.

All the interviews I've watched and read from Ford said the f150 will he 10.5:1 while the raptor gets 10:1

It's odd...I've seen and heard the same thing without the Raptor disclaimer. The label at the center of that photo clearly says 10.0:1 compression ratio.
