The good , bad and ugly of my 460

Hey all this is a 1987 460 from a motor home I recently picked up to shove into my 77 f250.. the PO insured me that it was in great shape with only 1000 miles on it as it was a repo in the 90s and just sat in his warehouse until recently because of a failed project... twenty five years late it's mine... I plan just a mild near stock cleanup. New timing set, tune up, carb , not sure if it's worth it to put in a cam with stock heads.

Everything except the date stamps are Pre efi, heads, intake, ect..

The good from what I can tell he was correct as this looks like a very low milage motor. The wear on the distributor gear is almost non existent and there look like factory mark on the cam gear..

The bad , is there was still antifreeze in it , I have to replace the water pump in the least and maybe pull the intake. I really don't want to pop off the heads.

The ugly , this blockage from what looks like galvanic corrosion, hoping it's not to bad. I could use some thoughts on this. I don't want to block the radiator and overheat it...

Thanks for the input. .

Another thought, I cannot see what numbers are on the crank sprocket. Is there any way visually to tell if the crank sprocket is retarded? If it's not retarded should I just keep ot? It's a very tight chain..

I don't care if that timing chain has zero miles on it. Replace it with one that is all steel.
I've replaced way too many timing chains that have lost the plastic teeth and have plugged up oil pump pick up tubes.

Put an 1987 or later timing set in it. Those are straight up sets. Look at the crank gear if the timing mark does not line up with the key way then it is a retarded set.
