Best way is to read the metal tag attached to the differential itself. The VIN data plate will have some of this information (gear ratio) but older trucks may have had different axles installed over the years.
More recent trucks Ford has a website that has all of a truck's standard equipment and options as delivered through the VIN, right down to the cupholders and lugnuts.
