With all the higher maintenance and diesel costs (my area), I'm not interested. I still don't see any advantage to a diesel in 1/2 ton. Have mercy on me, boys.

I agree.
My 5.0 will tow 10k pounds just fine.
I may not be the first to the top of a steep mountain pass.
But I don't really care about that.
And I sure know that I won't be the last to the summit either.
If on a 6 hour day of driving, towing a trailer, someone beats me to the campsite or lake or whatever by 2 minutes or 5 minutes or whatever congrats to you my hero.
My gas truck probably cost 20 percent less and costs half as much to maintain.
So enjoy your huge few minutes of victory there hero boy.

The guys I know who drive diesel trucks for non-commercial use will usualyl admit they buy they for A) the sound or B) the ability to blow black smoke or C) they wanted the biggest truck they could afford.

On the topic of C, I actually know a guy who bought one of these:

His usual load was himself and about 100 pounds of luggage, commuted hundred of miles of paved highway.

Ummmm wow.
Some may like that thing....but to my eyes it is horrible looking.

I would be too embarrassed to drive it.
If it was mine i would park it in a far corner of my property and throw a big tarp over it so i didn't have to look at it any more.

I've always liked the Topkicks and the F650 trucks, but needing a CDL to drive one is a huge turn off. I'd like to get a 650 with a 7 speed manual then swap in a 18 speed Eaton-Fuller for the kicks. It'll have more gears than I know what to do with, but for s&g's who cares?

Ford could use the 5.0 for the hybrid unless they will use an N/A v6 instead. Doubt the EcoBoost will be used in hybrid configuration, but who knows.

Well, at least he wasn't exhausting his payload capacity carrying around a large male appendage.

None of the above! Some of us need a TRUCK, not a pickup!

My wife laughs at those things and says they have to drive them to make up for their small hands...

I don't get what is so funny about that? "Small" compensation for wanting to drive a larger truck or jacked up? It's nearly insulting really and degrading. I hear it about other things too, but still...this isn't elementary school or the high school locker room.

Anyway, we as consumers have now have more and better options than we did a decade ago. Better towing and much better fuel economy, than before and on a much better consistent basis, where before the conditions had to be 1 in a million.
