I ordered my 16 with a 5.0L. I spoke with techs at 3 different dealers and most said the same thing. Ford got their act together with the '15 and 16 5.0L. I really don't think the EB will give me the 200K I've come to expect out of non-turbo engines without major costs.

My old truck was a 2012 ecoboost max tow and my new one is a 2016 sport 5.0 331.

I loved the 3.5 and it is hands down an amazing towing vehicle it would effortlessly tow my 24ft enclosed car trailer from Toronto to Miami. It was dead quiet on long road trips and got pretty decent gas milage. I decided to upgrade because I was never 100% happy with the interior on my 12 and the payment was high because we had to roll negative equity into it.

I don't regret getting the 5.0 in my new truck with the aluminum body it feels just as fast as my old truck and is even more comfortable. I don't tow heavy anymore so the ecoboost wasn't needed and nothing can beat that old v8 rumble

That is one thing that I notice with our 3.5L EB. Especially coming up the mountain. This is mostly a side-effect of the tranny picking too low of a gear at low speeds ( < 30 MPH) climbing a mountain road. In "D", it's usually at or around 1100 RPM. Just barely above idle. I put a little oomph into it to accelerate out of a corner, and VOOOOM! you're going.

I find it to be much less "twitchy" if I turn on the Tow mode. That raises the low speed RPM to around 1500 RPM, and it doesn't do the big VOOOM.

C&D is has a notorious disdain for trucks. I take their truck reviews with a grain a salt. However comparing them back to with no real usage of the truck's capabilities, I can understand their opinion. The V8 is probably the better tooling around, everyday errand runner, weekday commuter and the lumber store on the weekend truck. Especially for short trips. In my opinion, the turbo trucks need to used at full operating temperature whenever possible.

The throttle took awhile for me to learn, and for the adaptive learning to adjust to me. After a couple thousand miles we were getting along just fine.

Driving an EB is a bit different and requires some getting used to. Someone who drives a diesel regularly would probably adapt quicker than some one coming from a naturally aspirated gas engine.

That's fairly standard with modern cars and trucks with automatic transmissions. You often see it referenced when/if you have to replace the battery, when they talk about the transmission re-learning.

My truck was just reflashed by the dealer after a plug and boot replacement: Ford says to do it for free even if out of warranty to help mitigate future issues or to bring the vehicle up to current specs. Not sure which. Either way, the tech said that I'll have to give it chance to relearn my driving habits as I did when I first bought it.

Thanks. I do remember that when you change a battery it takes a while for everything to get in sync. Just did not think of this as relearning.

Some shops put in a scanner to save the shift points and every thing like that before changing a battery or anything that needs the battery disconnected. The. Re upload it so nothing is lost. At least that's what I was told during training at my shop.

My 2016 F-150 P175 owners manual states "For vehicles with eb engines to provide improved performance we recommend premium fuel for severe duty usage such as trailer tow" next paragraph " Do not use any other fuel than those recommended because they could lead to engine damage that may not be covered by the vehicle warranty" Are those of you towing with eb using premium gas? The way its worded, to ME it looks like ford is warning against regular gas for towing! I have the 5.0 and should be ok...

Mine is a 2012 & I use regular 87 for towing. The owners manual says "recommended", it does not say "required" for premium fuels.

The 2nd paragraph is fords disclaimer if you don't use the recommended fuel, they dont use words like shall or required as in a legal document.

"To provide improved performance"...not "to avoid blowing your truck up".

I've towed lots of weight with my last EB truck on 87 octane...even pulled 15,000 lbs at the OH meet with 87 octane. No performance issues whatsoever, she beat every Super Duty up the hill.
