1979 F-250 4x4 Where do I look to find what my engine is

Hello:
Where do I look on the engine to find the engine numbers? I want to know exactly what engine I have in my truck.

I don't know exactly, but there may be a tag on it somewhere. On mine, it's somewhere next to the starter. I haven't found it yet, though. It's hard to access.

You won't find numbers.

Your VIN will indicate what your truck was originally equipped with. Look at the back side of the driver's door for the "warranty plate" and compare the VIN to your title. Does it match? Post it up or look here: Decoding '73-'79 Ford Truck VIN Tags - FORDification.net

Then by deductive reasoning, compare images from the internet to your engine to determine its engine family. Alternatively, post an image of your engine and your fellow FTEers will likely be able to tell...

Here is what a warranty plate looks like...

The engine code is the 4th digit of the VIN

1977/79 4WD's could have a 300 I-6 (VIN engine code B); 351M (VIN engine code H); 400 (VIN engine code S).
