1970 F250 Park Idle to Drive

Hey Ford Folks!

I've finally got my F250 running! Now it's time to get it really humming.

Here's the situation:
1970 F250, 390, Automatic, 38k miles

After the truck is warm- It idles in Park just fine. Then when I switch it into drive or reverse, the engine starts to struggle and almost dies. It doesn't die but shakes pretty hard like it wants to. When I remove the brake it still shakes until I can gently give it gas. If i give it too much gas when in drive it gets bogged down.

It has good new gas running through it now.

Any thoughts on problems and next steps?!

Thanks!

When was the last tuneup & timing check done? Have you checked for vacuum leaks (at both sets of carb gaskets & rubber hoses)? Have you replaced the old rubber lines to & from the carb, & to the dist, & to the trans? Was the carb cleaned & rebuilt if the truck sat for a long time?

Bogging down, stumbling, hesitating from a dead stop or when accelerating at speed is indicative of a defective accelerator pump and check valve.

Both these parts come in the 2100 series 2V carburetor kit.
