That's ugly----can't wait to see what the pan is hiding.

Much too common on these motors. The intake design wasn't Ford's finest hour. jim

The V10's used a cast metal intake, correct? V8 Modular Motors have the plastic version, also prone to issues though more of cracking and causing air metering issues--have not seen too many reporting coolant leaking into the cylinders.

Intake is in fact cast aluminum. I have to take responsibility for this failure as my cooling system maintenance routines have been less than perfect. I change the oils and filters regularly but I need to be more diligent with the cooling systems. Lesson learned!

Hmmmm... Exactly how bad was your lack of maintenance on the cooling system?

I missed the last two coolant changes. Last one I did was at 75000. I'm embarrassed! I didn't put many miles a year on after 75000 so it just slipped by me, my fault!

More specifically if you don't mind...
How many miles?

68,000 since the last coolant change. Mileage now at 143,000. I know it's a little long but I never expected this!

I ask because I've added 140,000 miles to mine in the last 3 years and not changed the coolant....
I'm not sure I've even looked at the reservoir level...

Pulled the engine and tranny today. Big empty hole in the front.

Oil pan is full of small unidentifiable parts.

Trans and engine have been separated.

Now they are sitting in my driveway until I return from Moab UT next month and install the new components.

Might want to check a reman-ed motor for repairs in these areas. Those holes look repairable if done properly. jim

Core value?

I'll be surprised if you get your core deposit money back...

That block is scrap iron.

Holes on both sides? Why bother?
