61 F100 w/ 223 carb options?

ive been looking at a replacement carb for my sons 61 F100.

for simplicity reasons, i would like to upgrade the 1 bbl to a holley 2 bbl 350 CFM.

however, it seems like a custom adapter plate is needed.
these engines have been ran forever, i would think there is a easy way to do this?

he does not have the cash flow to purchase an aftermarket intake,
what do you guys do on the cheap to upgrade your carburation???

he's purchased all new brakes, and has upgraded to front disc.
with MC and proportioning valve.
new lines and the whole shabang.

a petronix ignition, plugs wires, coil and gaskets ready to go on after his brakes are complete.

then he wants to do body work!
hes got a drivers side door and fender to replace first.

Others will reply. Pertronics unit is a good update.

As far as carb goes, IF you still have the original stock distributor (Dizzy), the 1V carb you have is mated to that Dizzy for proper advancing of the timing. Your Dizzy only has vacuum advance, no centrifugal. Your carb has a Spark Control Valve that modulates between ported and manifold vacuum signals depending on how far your foot is on the gas and the load applied.

I'm not aware of a 2V or 4V carb to install, you may have to do a Dizzy upgrade

yep- if its the old Load-o-matic setup, the dizzy and the carb are a set.

Mr. Gasket sells the adapter you're looking for, its about $20 if i remember correctly. You may or may not need new throttle linkage with the new carb.

interesting about the vacuum advance.
never woulda thunk!
ive put these 2 bbl's on the 170 before and it ran great,

which distributor is used for the upgrade?
is there another way through restricting the ported vacuum on the carb?

id really like to have a new carb on this, because guess whos gonna be getting the call if it breaks down...
thats right, ME. lol

the truck does run decent besides a slight stumble off idle, which im trying to cure.
we havnt gotten to the engine work yet, but i think i should change the plugs, wires, change I&E gaskets, and install the petronix. see how it runs then.

as my son is a new driver, i dont want him to deal with that stumble.

Don't discount the dependability of the OE carb. A rebuild if necessary by you and your Son. Good learning curve for him. Kits are reasonable and instructions included.

Do your tune up, check accelerator pump in carb (stumble) and inspect heat riser at exhaust manifold for frozen or broken, not operating properly (stumble).

The 170, different engine family, may have had vacuum and centrifugal dizzy.

Someone else needs to advise on possible dizzy upgrade for 223. I have no definite info. Just faint recollections.

My 66 240 (different engine family) had Load-o matic like you. I upgraded dizzy to Ford DSII, chose manifold vacuum because my L-O-M carb was in great shape and I wasn't going to just go out and buy a later model carb like most do. I just plugged my ported vacuum connection. You cannot imagine the difference with Dizzy upgrade, not he same truck

The 1100 carb isn't at all compliated to rebuild or adjust
Check the accelerator valve as said (the orifice is hidden in the carb bore - make sure it's clear) also be sure the power valve actuator is adjusted properly to rectify the stumble

And of course vacuum leaks (booster if there is one, is a suspect area too)
