Coolant in Oil

I love this truck but she is starting to drive me nuts. It all started with her not wanting to start. I have changed or replaced alot of fuel related items and she finally started on her own but ran really rough. So work the injectors and found 3 broke nozzle springs and 1 injector just way out of wack, so replacing it. My oil level was fine until I started filling the hpop and figured that was why the oil level went up. Oil wasn't showing sign of any antifreeze in it, truck wasn't smoking more than normal smoke...well found that I had no antifreeze in the res., couldn't figure out where it went. Drained the oil and there it was! The truck hasn't been stared in a while because I was working the injectors. Now I am thinking head gaskets are blown but is there anything else that would cause the antifreeze to end up in the oil? Thank you for any help or ideas.

Most common cause of coolant/oil commingling is the oil cooler. That's where I'd start my research.

Head gaskets can be added to your list of possibilities.

Wouldn't busted injector cups do that too?

IIRC, broken injector sleeves commingle coolant and fuel.

Oh that's right. If it was coming out the exhaust, it would be injector cups. Forget I said anything!!

Diesel 55-65 psi, coolant less than 15 psi... diesel goes into collant with bad cups

Cavitated block can also cause coolant in oil. Bad oil cooler o-rings will generally cause the oil to go into the coolant due to oil pressure being higher than coolant pressure, just like bad injector cups will put fuel in the coolant due to the higher fuel pressure. Very seldom do you ever see bad head gaskets on these engines. If it were me, while the injectors were out, I would pressurize the cooling system and look and listen down in the cylinders, and anywhere else to figure out where the coolant is leaking into the oil.

Bill, I am new to this engine and have never had to do anything like this. How do I pressurize the cooling system system? The engine has over 300,000 on her. I have only had her about 7 months now. The guy that had her before us wasn't very nice to her. She was fine when we turned her off and after a really bad cold spell (had her plugged in ) she started acting up. Have found several things wrong with her trying to get her back up again. Thanks for the help.

You will need a cooling system pressure testing kit with the adapter that will screw on where the cap is on the degas bottle. Only put about 15-16 psi on the system.

Mine did that. I had replaced the oil cooler orings due to a bad leak. The inner oring got pinched during install and filled the crank with coolant. But, if the person ran water you could have a pin hole in the aluminum sleeve.

Update

Well, how this girl was even running is a miracle. it's been a while since I have posted anything. I quite working on her for a while because every time I did, I found something else wrong. Getting the turbo off was murder! Pretty much just the block is left. I am removing oil pan. Any tips or tricks that I might need to know? I am backing the transmission off the block tomorrow so I can get the oil pan off. I will clean it and have hubby paint it. He pretty much has everything else already painted. I am putting the heads back together after I get the block cleaned up. I was sure with all the problems I was going to have bad rings or pistons....Thank goodness they look great! Debating on weither to pull the block out and just put her back together, then drop her in whole. Any thoughts?

thanks
