Hey what do you guy's think about this engine? Seems way to cheap but I'm a newbie so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.... That's why I'm asking! Lol Ford 388W stroker freshly built
I'd guess the guy is just looking to recoup costs of stroker assembly, the block and heads are common and not worth too much. It is a good deal although you would be wise to closely inspect it before buying and even more in depth before using it.
He says it has some run time on an engine stand. Perhaps that's where he decided to sell it rather than use it. I'd want to hear it run first and I'd use a mechanic's stethoscope.
Look on Summit for the cost of this rotating assembly and you might be as skeptical as I am.
I'd want to see documents to verify it's a stroker since there is nothing to see on the outside to indicate a stroker assembly inside. If the motor is a fresh rebuild it should look it, if you find a ratty leaking mess then you have to question the whole story.
With stock heads this motor won't make very remarkable horsepower.. 260-275hp at about 4000rpm, but it should make gobs of torque from idle up.
He says his uncle built it for someone and they couldn't pay it off so he kept the motor.. So would I be able to drop some different heads on it and grab some more power? Like you said I'm a little skeptical unless he can show me some proof of what's inside.
It seems like a weird building. Never heard of a 388W stroker. Maybe a 383 kit bored 60 over? Boring a SBF 60 is sometimes suggested as a bad idea as the cylinder walls can become extremely thin.
Why would they use a crappy stroker crank and less than ideal heads, BUT use H-beam rods, possibly a cast iron intake, and balance the assembly?
Seems like a weird combination of someone that really is not an engine building expert, but then again that is just my opinion.
