Door Hinge Pins
I had an original set rebuilt by a local shop and noticed that some of the hinge pins rotate in the bracket and others in the arm. I'm not sure whether the shop rebuilt them wrong or if the pin is supposed to just rotate however it wants.
It seems that the pins should rotate in the arm since there is so much more meat there compared to the stamped bracket and won't wear out as quickly.
So does any know how they came from the factory?
From what I can tell after working on my door hinges, looking at rebuild kits (that wouldn't fit) and finally having them professionally done, I don't think that it matters where the movement occurs. The pins will slide in whichever component has the least amount of bind. As long as there's no vertical play (which you can't tell until you bolt them in and test the long arm), you should be fine. These don't have bronze bushings like some of the hinges, in which the pin is swaged and slides within the bushing. The pin has an interference fit all the way "through" the entire assembly.
