Trusty Crusty 85 F-150
Hi Everyone..I have this old truck..300 6cyl 4 speed..less than 60k..my daughter loves this old girl..
Modules..the kind on the side of the distributor failed a couple times..anyhow..got a used distributor..and a new module..plus a coil. Still no spark..
Wonder..would a bad ground cause the modules to fail? How can I eliminate this problem besides replacing everything?
Maybe some old guy like me knows..or a younger smarter person.
Craig

If you are referring to the TFI ignition modules, what Ford did sometime in the 90s to alleviate heat-related failures was to mount that thing in a remote location - on the side of the fender over near the power brake booster. Do a Google search on "remote TFI mount" or some such and you can find all sorts of instructions & pre-made wiring to help you.

To add to what Chris said, a bad ground won't cause them to fail. It will cause the engine to run poorly, if at all. But it was heat that caused the modules to fail, and a bad ground reduces the current, and therefore the internally-generated heat. However, by placing the modules on the distributor, tied to the hot engine and directly behind the radiator, Ford put them in harm's way.
