I know I have read this on here but some people have conflicting answers. I have a 1979 f150 4x4 with a 400 6.6liter original engine. Some says it holds 5 quarts of oil, also read 5.5 and 6. The majority said 6 so I went with that. I've only owned the truck a couple of months. After filling it with 6 quarts, the reading on dip stick is 1/2 inch higher that full mark. Maybe a little more. There's no water in oil. It is pure black after 50 miles of driving. Oil pressure gauge doesn't work, but I have developed a valve cover gasket leak and a leak behind the intake manifold. It may be the oil sending unit leaking. Will change. The dip stick says Ford on it, so I'm assuming is original dip stick. Has anybody had this issue? Thanks
Should not be black after 50 miles. Does the oil smell like gasoline? How does the truck run? My oil still looks new after about 2k miles in a new motor. I've had several 400s all took 6 qts with the proper FL1A oil filter

The truck has mechanical issues. I'm working on it. The oil does not smell like gas. Just oil. It does burn gas because of carb issues. Black smoke.
