Regen / soot levels in DPF

I recently purchased a scanguage so I can monitor guages, clear codes, etc. I have the custom gauges set so I can see EGT's and soot levels in the DPF ( and I don't know why!!! That's almost TMI !!!)

Anyways, I have noticed that Regen starts when I hit 2.5-2.7 GPL. Regen completes somewhere down around 1.2 GPL. I am wondering if anyone else might be sick-in-the-head like me and monitor these levels. I am curious to know what your soot levels are when Regen starts / stops. Also age of your vehicle and miles. I have a 2011 with 101,000+ miles.

Thanks in advance!

I have the CTS gauge and can display 10 things concurrently. I display all 4 EGTs, DEF level, Soot level, voltage, temps. When new, I got regens starting at about 3.5 gpl and finishing about .8. Now with Opti-Lube Summer Plus, AR6200 and a 5-Star tune, my truck ages out at 500 miles and starts a regen from 2.60 to 2.80, still finishing around .8.

My regens start at 3.46 and end at about 1.2. The starting gpl are like clockwork, but the ending can be plus or minus 1.2 quite a bit.

The various soot gpl's across trucks and model years is interesting.

If I ever saw 3.0 on mine, I would have to assume something isn't right. My truck has never had to display a 3, I think the highest was 2.8 something once and that was because of an already high count and needing to high idle for whatever reason that day. Before the first big update around mid 2012 that resolved various issues including the shifting problems, mine would start at 2.66 like clockwork and burn down to under 1.20 regularly. The update allowed the start value to fluctuate between 2.57 and 2.65 or so. This most recent emissions update that includes the sensor fix lowered the start value more. 2.55 is now a high value that I don't see often. I had one start around 2.45 today. It rarely burns below 1.3 now whether I'm driving in town or 70 MPH on the interstate. Towing temps during a regen will help it clean further though but that's expected.

Thanks, guys. This is all great info. My numbers are just about the same as kper05's. I was particularly interested to see if the stop (off) value on mine was higher than other similar years or newer years, possibly indicating that the DPF is clogging or "filling up" over time. I don't see anything alarming here.
Before I got the scanguage, I was very curious what triggered regen. I have done a lot of research - seems to be different triggers on different makes. Its frustrating when regen triggers at the very end of a 2-3 hour highway run, but now I know that was just luck. Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!

Your numbers match what my 2011 did, My 2015 now kicks in above 3.xx But I've also had it go into Active regen as low at 1.xx and clean down to .60

Especially when I've been towing a lot and it has been doing a Passive Regen

I use the screen that the dealer can turn on and it shows the filter full percentage. My regen will start anywhere from 85% up to showing Full and then it stops the regen anywhere between 40-55%. I usually am driving 72mph without any stopping during the regens and I only saw it go down to 35% one time.

It appears that my numbers mirror what y'all are seeing, just different terminology.

I do wish it would show a 100% down to 20% cycle but it's never done it.

My truck has 89,000 on it in case y'all think it might be relevant.

The regens are shorter since the emissions update which I know is what changed how much is burned from mine. My personal guess is Ford took off a few minutes of burn time to reduce the heat stress on the sensors over time, in addition to the other programming changes. I have no idea if long term heat over 1,200°F was hurting those but that's the only way I can explain why they would have reduced the regen time. I haven't seen 1,200 since the update either. No idea what temps those sensors are designed to withstand over time.

My '15 seems to start regen only when the dash gage says 100%. When it gets close I watch it, within about 30 seconds of hitting 100% the regen starts. It stays on until the gage reads around 25-35%, but the gage continues to drop for several minutes afterward, ending up usually 20-30%. The PIDs reported are usually 2.9 - 3.2 g/l at the start, and burn down to 0.9 - 1.4 or so. I haven't had a lot of them yet, but that's what has happened so far. The first two seemed to be triggered by the odometer, after the first two the PID reported average miles between regens was 500.4 miles. After that they have come a little quicker.

I am going in to get the new programming ford just put out next week, so I am curious about my regens...egt's, start and stop gpl's.

As far as dpf % vs gpl's, my cts stops at 100% and won't read higher when reading dpf percentage, but 2.77gpl seems to be 100%. Before I got the cts I used forscan and the values for the percentage reading would continue on past 100%. So basically my regens start at about 138%.

With the screen mine will go to 100% (full) before a regen. Then it will regen all the way to zero %.

Passive regens will keep it from 100% but eventually it will do one as required by the EPA. I don't know what the backstop is for the 6.7 for that to happen though.
