Truck misfiring PLEASE help

1988 F-250 460 ci. It stopped running while driving. Misfires when started. Last Jan. it stopped and a new distributor was put in and a tune up. Was running great. Then in March it did the same thing.Could I have gotten a bad one? It was new and not rebuilt one. It is throwing code 14.

Code 14 is CM only. Did you clear the codes after replacing the distributor?

Yes,I have disconnected the battery a number of times. And what is CM. I've never had it throw that code before.

CM = Continuous Memory aka Stored Code. You most likely have a bad PIP sensor in that new distributor.

You would think you'd get a new part that would last longer than 2 months.

I agree. That PIP code is a sure sign of a bad one. But it is only from CM so it may take a few dtive cycles to appear. If the battery cable has bern removed in recent past, it's a valid recent code.

I'm having trouble finding someone to put the distributor in. I may just have to try to do it myself. I've never put one in before but it may be the only choice I have.

It's not too tough. Look on the web for how to do it.
