Dan, nice video. I might offer a suggestion on your welting and the bulging...if the welting is pressed too far down into the seam it will bulge like that. The trick is to let the bead ride above the seam so that it doesn't get pinched. I don't have welting on my 56 but I am getting ready to assemble a 1940 Ford coupe with welting and I intend to use silicone adhesive to bond the welting to the fender prior to assembly.

A little heat might help it conform to the curved fender line a little better if it has been boxed for a while. Suggest setting it stretched out in the sun or use a heat gun on low temp.

Use either a little contact cement or Gascinch ... Easy to apply
Easy to clean up
Notches are best around corners

Silicones contain acetic acid which promotes corrosion, contaminates paint and will peel eventually... Don't use

That looks more like earlier welt. I'm pretty sure OG is a weaved coated strip w/ no welted edge

In my experience, painting any plastic/rubber will result in cracks unless you add plasticiser to the paint and even then it'll probably flex too much and crack.

IMO it never looks good painted anyway
