Barn Find 52 Mercury M3

I just purchased this truck and I'm looking for a rear bumper. I don't think I'll paint the truck so an old stock ribbed or a cool old step bumper would be best. I'd like to be able to tow with it. I also should find a passenger side mirror, so I don't run over anyone.

Does any one have a bumper and/or a matching mirror for sale?

FYI - this is my 4th M3. All the other ones were made in Germany.

Hey Ghalperin,
Welcome aboard! I love the look of that longer bed.
I'd be tempted to paint it red with tractor paint. So.. what did
your other German one's look like? We like pictures....

I can't say for absolute certain but I think I have a matching mirror for you. It came off of a 1953 F500. Good and rusty too. I'll go grab it and take some pics for you. SWEET truck by the way. Looks rugged and capable.

The mirror is 10.5" X 7.5". The arm is 17". Mirror 100% intact and the rubber is also intact with zero cracking. It doesn't appear to be exactly what you have but the dimensions seem similar. The bracket to attach it to the truck is a bit different as well. You may have to have one fabricated unless you found one elsewhere. Here are some pictures. Let me know if you're interested.

I've never heard of German-manufactured Mercury trucks, or Fords for that matter. Are you sure they weren't export models from Canada?

Might we be talking about BMWs?

Btw, your truck is a '52, not a '53.

Edit - might this be the style bumper you're after?
Edit edit - you could also benefit from some Google time reading about your truck's widow maker Firestone RH-5° wheels. Stu

It is a 52, 53 was a typo.

The other M3s were BMWs. 2 88s and a 98.

Stu - that bumper is great. How much do you want?

Thanks for the heads up on the wheels, widow maker is enough to make me worried.

I'll reply to your pm, but would suggest trying to find one closer to home. I'd bet our friend Ilya (51panelman) who lives in the San Jose area might have something similar. Shipping would be sort of expensive from IL. Stu

I found my bumper

I purchased an utility bumper from an F1. It's got a few extra holes, but it's pretty close to what I was looking for and the paint is a perfect match.

I Googled the Widow Makers. I can't beleve they've lasted this long. The truck is still in transport and as soon as it gets here I'll decide what to do about them. I may have new rims installed onto the original centers. I want to get the 34" tall stock sized 7.50x17 tires. I contacted Stockton Wheel and I'm waiting for them to get back to me. What other options are there?
