Nevermind on that engine the 302 deal fell through so back to putting it in the mustang. My dad found a few in the junkyard but he wants $350 for just the block. Gonna wait for the owner to get back in town and talk to him since we know him. Also waiting for a call back to find out what engine is in this really cheap van.

Got an engine finally and got it into the machine shop. Waiting to hear back from him after magnufluxing it. We are expecting .020-.030 bore but time will tell. Engine is out of a 90 F-250 so will have to use that pan.

Yeah 302s don't seem to last in trucks, they belong in cars

I love the 302 in my 88 but I prefer the 351 for the low end torque.

My 302 was great in the Bronco, but it wasn't really powerful. I did have some nice upgrades (afr heads/bassani headers and exhaust back) but still wanted more. I probably could have cammed it and had it custom tuned, but the 351 will be better in the truck due to the torque.

The 302 still was doing great at 230k+ miles when I pulled it. If I was doing the work though, I'd go with a 351 since you're already putting in the effort.

So haven't heard back from the machine shop yet but was looking at my exhaust system on the 83 and really like the set up.
High flow cat (flowmaster) into a flow master 40 series muffler exiting before the tire with 2 1\4 pipe all the until the exit which is 1 3\4 but I will but a bigger tip on it probably. It is duals with a crossover tube to make a h-pipe so I think it will do great and sound great.

Also since I am having a tough time finding gt40 heads not on eBay (shipping to me would cost a fortune) going to use the 7th heads and I will grind out the thermactor bumps and port the intake to match.

So talked to the machine shop so far he has it magnufluxed and degreased. He also got 4 of the 8 cylinders bored then his boring machine went down. So far the oneshe has done are looking great at .030 so hopefully the other 4 will be fine also.

Just got the word that the engine is ready at .030 so ordered new pistons and moly rings and main and rod bearings at .010 undersized.

Probably going to be at least a few months before I get it done I am still saving slowly up and only get one day a week off.
My buddy with a 66 half cab bronco was hoping I would make the car show next month but I don't see that happening.

Dropped off the pistons, rods, and crank. He will let me know when it is ready to be picked up.
Having to use my crank and rods from the 351 I pulled from the truck.

Also got her registered for 2 more years.

Well update on the status of the engine. 5 of the 8 connecting rods are beat so I am having him undersize them do that uped the price $180 but I am getting brand new bolts by arp from him.
He is hoping to have it ready to be picked up tomorrow.
