Got the heads off and was done after that. Engine has already been bored.040 over and is rusted to far in 3 or 4 cylinders. got to find a new block now.

Damn that's a bummer.... small block ford v8s shouldn't be too hard to come by though at least. Sucks yours is toast. Can they sleeve the cylidners, or do you not want to go that route?

I'm sure hoping my replacement 7.3 engine is in good shape. The one I put in last year had super low compression. I was fearing that, but didn't check because it ran so well. Finally I had to check that since fuel kept getting into the oil and thinning it out.

I'm almost done getting the motor ready to pull now. I have to take the whole core support out to get the motor in and out.

Hopefully you can get a good motor soon!

I have sleeved an engine before with bad luck so I won't do it again. Any decent engine in my area is hard to find but talking to my dad he might sell me his 351 that is freshly honed with new bearings and polished crank to me it was for my sister's mustang but plans have changed on it.
Most people around here leave engines outside and the engine rusts out. My 302 in my 88 had rust in the cylinders and it was able to be bored .040 over. It is a hard decision since I don't want to leave another project unfinished.

Forgot to mention the 351 2bbl intake I had on it while I went to remove it snapped so now I can't sell it.

Ya right now I have been helping my brother pull his 89 blazer engine to put his 89 s10 engine in and it has been a huge pain in the rear because since they are 4x4 u have to lower the front end.

Dang... yeah leaving engines outside won't fair too well for them. That's too bad your intake snapped as well.....

I was in the middle of building a 350 for my Camaro that has a 305 in it now. I am going to swap the performance cam over to the 350 from the 305, but keep most of the other stuff the same on the 350. I power washed the engine, but sealed things off really well before. However, I'm worried if any water or anything got inside of it.

I won't have time to get back around to messing with that until I can pull the 7.3 out of my Bronco now to put the HOPEFULLY good 7.3 I have in the garage in it. If my spare 7.3 is no good, then I'll be saving a lot of money for a rebuild.

Ya the intake I don't care about to much since it was a 2bbl and I have a 4bbl.

Tomorrow I go and pick up on the paint for the engine some aren't going to like the color but cummins beige is the color I decided on.

Well any paint makes an engine look a lot nicer!

I can't wait to get mine painted, but I have some cleaning left to do. I can't get the passenger side manifold off though, so I have to cut a bolt, then try and get it out after that. This sure is turning into quite the ordeal for me. This replacement motor better turn out well!

Pic with the engine out. I am hoping to go to the junk yard tomorrow after work depending on when I get off work and see if they have any 351s. I definitely don't want to go any smaller of an engine and my cousin already has a 83 460 bronco so I don't really want that.

Ok so I never got to the junk yard but I was doing some research and it looks like there is a very slight possibility I might be able to use this block. I read that if it isn't pitted then I might be lucky enough that with steel wool and some oil I might be able to clean it up. Hopefully tomorrow I can attempt this. I hope it works honestly but I never looked for piting so not sure.

Got the engine the rest off the way out and going after I get off work to have the machine shop look at it and the crank. Hopefully he will say just hone if he says bore then going to have a few questions for him. 2 pistons did break while pulling them so need pistons anyways they were pretty brittle. Also crank has already been .010 ground off.

Crank he said he could polish from what he could see block is shot. He said he would hit the water jacket if he did bore it more I never noticed the huge ridge in the cylinder walls.

Dang that's too bad...

Well hopefully you can find a good block soon. I'm a little worried about the spare I have for my truck but I don't have the funds to get it rebuilt, so I'm just going to run with it and hope for the best!

Going to start tearing down another one starting probably tomorrow. It is out of a 90 f250 that was running but had a bad transmission. It has been sitting covered up for about a year now so we shall see. We bought it for my sister's mustang but then we decided to stick a roller gt40p 302 in. Just really need the block but will see what parts are still good.

Good luck on your 7.3 bubba I have never dealt with diesel so couldn't tell you your chances or how to tell.
